Freightliners

Hey all - long time since I last posted a poem - sorry! Here's something I wrote while waiting for a late night train:-

Freightliner
-------------

Dark one evening,
echoing voices heralding
brilliant beasts
down predestined lines

The dark platform
furthest from the glow
trundled in
an unwelcome guest

etching forward,
an insipid hulk,
somnabulatory, single
wipered eye
betraying a dark,
huddled figure

Sat in the dark
of a four man carriage
pulling the thirty-fold weight
ambly down the rails
by proxy, pausing

bathing in the glow
of a hundred lamps
lined up on the platform
puzzled, pitying, waiting

two minutes respite
and light, colour are restored
our angel blasts in
with bright headlamps
and blessed inclusion
we are the lucky ones.
